PROJECT

The FC42 has been conceived according to the latest design trends; comfortable and fast sailing. Its hull shows a slim boat section with a very full stern providing gentle and powerful sailing. It fabrication is done by the use of unidirectional E glass fabrics and epoxy resins with carbon reinforcements for floors and halyards, vacuum impregnated at 0.65 atm and post-cured at 60 degrees for 12 hours on male moulds. Its sail plan is generously sized by a full mainsail and jib at 110%, code 0 and gennaker. The theme of the project is the concept of “fast and easy sailing”, leading to a deck plan which is extremely “clean“ and simple, where all of the ropes runs under the deck directly to the only two electrical winches near the helm station.
In fact, from this position it is possible to manoeuvre the halyards and the genoa sheet, while the mainsail, which is fixed tack, is adjusted via a “Magic Trim” situated inside the boom. The deck, which has flush-deck hatches, has an open stern and double helm with fully integrated columns in composite material. The wooden furniture units, with no raised cornices have been fitted to the composite with “joint” supports in order to highlight the difference between the structure in composite and the furnishing elements. The styling of the cabinetry and the accessories is linear and modern. The layout includes a master cabin with bathroom, a dinette amidships, and a galley. The engine room is large and easily inspected; it is situated amidships and has excellent soundproofing.

TEAMWORK

GYD has provided a complete package for this project, the client a recognised yacht design office has commissioned GYD to create a project according to the needs of his clients. GYD worked with a good but open guide line to produce a full “ready to build” project.
